What's the difference between the premise and the synopsis?
Well, whatever the difference, I've decided to rewrite both of mine. The original premise and synopsis (whatever those are) no longer fit the description of my finished screenplay. Whoops! Wouldn't want anyone to think I didn't mean to write this. Question is, do I want anyone to think I did?
According to Wikipedia...
A synopsis is a brief summary of the major points of a written work, either as prose or as a table; an abridgment or condensation of a work.
The premise of a film or screenplay is the fundamental concept that drives the plot. Most premises can be expressed very simply, and many films can be identified simply from a short sentence describing the premise. For example: A lonely boy is befriended by an alien; A small town is terrorized by a shark; A small boy sees dead people.
Yup! I'm rewriting mine.
